The Most Useful Decision I Made About My Digital Marketing Strategy
Al of this began after my struggling Blog was struggling, to get noticed on the internet. I knew I had created a quality website, but mywebsite got almost no traffic, and my social posts seemed to disappear into the void. So after so many times felt like giving up and being frustrated, I then decided to explore digital marketing.
I had no idea where to start. Should I focus on SEO? Pay-per-click ads? Or was social media the key?
Every so-called ‘guru’ had a different opinion, and the jargon was mind-boggling. My early attempts at advertising swallowed my budget and offered little in the way of return, while my website’s bounce rate was through the roof.
That was when I read an article about creating a customer journey.
Rather than cast a wide net with arbitrary ads, I started signaling toward the full user experience I realized who my target audience was and how they chose to engage with my brand, which questions they would be asking and how I could continue to be of value along the way.
I began doing a thorough audit of my website to ensure proper SEO and effortless navigation. Then I would use tools like Google analytics or social listening platforms to get a sense of what my audience’s pain points. From there I produced focused content and instituted a retargeting campaign (that limited ads to displayed interest) to win back visitors that had expressed potential but not converted to leads.
Results didn’t arrive overnight, and I soon came to understand that not every campaign would be a home run.
I almost wasted money on a Facebook ad campaign because my audience was too broad in the beginning, but with time,
I refined my strategy. Through measurement and iteration my traffic grew by 40%,
and conversions trended solidly upward.
The biggest lesson I learned? Digital marketing can mean different things for different businesses.
It’s an active process that demands constant experimentation, learning and adjustments.
However, when executed accurately, it can transform how you engage with your target audience and accelerate the growth of your company.
